Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism left him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
