Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
