PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
